Best way to get a TXT up to 25mph with no lift
Two questions: (A) What is the 'best' way to get a stock TXT up to 25mph with a family of 4 (2A, 2K) on board? (B) What is the 'cheapest/easiest' way?
More details: I'm new to this whole world but am looking to get a cart for my family to cruise around our town. After some research, I think I want to go with a 48V TXT as I want something simple, don't need an aluminum frame of a CC and I want to do some tinkering (I have more desire than experience though). Ideally, I would spend no more than $6-7k for everything. Most of the used TXT around are 3-5 years old so that is likely my starting point. I would need to get it street legal in Ohio, and following inspection / licensing I want to make changes get it up to a 'good' 25 mph. It's mostly flat where I live so I won't run into a lot of hills but I don't want something that has a pathetic level of torque. Also, I would prefer not to lift it as I want to keep the center of gravity as low as possible (I like to corner fast); although I could agree to lift if it makes everything a lot cheaper. A rough idea of the work involved and costs would be awesome. |

Re: Best way to get a TXT up to 25mph with no lift
Easiest & cheapest way: Drive it down hills always.
I would start with a cheaper and much older PDS TXT if you want to do upgrades. The frames and axles of TXTs don't change much and lots of good aftermarket choices. If you are going to do it yourself why pay someone else to install the stuff? Cheapest way is to buy a TXT PDS anything after 2002 without batteries etc... 1. Change controller. 2. High speed motor. 3. Trim it out the way you want. Save yourself a lot of money. I just got a 2004 TXT PDS for $500 USD with working controller and motor. No batteries or charger. No rust really to speak of. I can't imagine how I would even come close to spending $7000 USD upgrading this thing. My spreadsheet tells me I could put on a AC controller and AC 5kw motor and still have lots of money in my pocket. That setup would get you over 25mph. 4 wheel disc breaks. etc... etc... etc... |

With a TXT48 going with an upgraded Alltrax controller and FSIP speed motor would get you there no problem. Might even be able to pull those speeds with a FSIP torque motor (with the proper map) when rolling with the whole family.

Or get a 2013 or newer RXV with a Curtis controller, put 20.5" tires on it and have Bob program it to do 31 to 32 mph without buying any extra parts. Except for some 2 gauge battery cables.
I pass TXT's all the time in the campground especially up a hill... |

As you can see there is more than one way to skin this cat.
I like your original idea. TXT48 3-5 yrs old is my favorite cart. They are easy top work on and ride smooth. You can stuff 19-20 inch tires on them without a lift and hit 24-25 mph with a simple Alltrax controller upgrade. |

Re: Best way to get a TXT up to 25mph with no lift
What TXT ? There have been many drive systems produced on the TXT platform over the past 25 years, they all respond differently. All of them can get to 30 mph, some just cost more than others to do so.
I'm guessing easily is the key word in your question. 30 mph is 2.5 times the original speed of the cart as designed. So this might be the equivalent to asking for an easy way to make your car go 250 mph. |

Re: Best way to get a TXT up to 25mph with no lift
thanks Scotty for making the point I was wanting to see on here...30+mpg is FAST for our little buggies. in fact with mine being a standard lift kit cart I recognize the risk when we are peaking at the 25ish mark..if we were back down and low to the ground, I'd be about as comfy at 30 as I am at 25 on the lift.
to the original question...I started with an old 2002 PDS, 36v..still have the same motor, but swapped out the Curtis 300 for an Alltrax 450 and solenoid, ran 2ga cables throughout..while this did not add to my top end (the curtis had the jumper on it), it did add the offroad torque I wanted and the 2ga seem to help me maintain speed up long grades when on pavement..but pavement running for me is nothing more than campgrounds and the neighborhood..rest of the time the cart is busy here on my property helping me do chores and running the wife and grandkids out on the trails through the woods. I get that some folks who live in communities that are cart friendly , may want to scoot about at more like a 35mph pace...I've not been able to, nor felt the need to run a cart at that speed. |

Re: Best way to get a TXT up to 25mph with no lift
30 mph....Jimmide Cricket...thats fast....yall would leave me behind in my 1991 cushman minute miser....i got it up to 9mph one day, down hill.
seriously the true beauty of golf carts is the ease of modifications, I heard the top speed record for an electric cart is 108mph. BGW is the greatest source of info on the internet, hours of reading available and one heck of a great hobby |
