New wires..... new problems (pics)
36v 94 Marathon,
Powerwise charger. Heres the scenario. When I got the cart it was a rust bucket. Cleaned it up and replaced the batteries with Energizers from Sams 3/09. Charged fine on 2 occasions with old rusted wires. Lifted/new tires/wheels/paint etc... Replaced the battery wires with 2 ga marine wire soldered terminals and remaining wires with 4 ga. Also replaced the charger receptacle on the cart. Tried to charge and the charger starts ~20 amps moves to 15 amps over about 2-3 hours and holds there while the batteries heat up and boil. I left it on evernight so it ran for about 10 hours. Load tested the batteries and one tested "weak". Took the battery back to Sams and they replaced it no problem. Tried to charge the batteries again and the same thing happens. Gets to ~14 amps and sits. All the batteries boil except the new one. Load test good on all batteries, water good, charger good. Any suggestions? |

you have the chaging posative on the wrong battery it should go on the first battery in the circut you have it on the second one so you are charging a 30 volt pace looking AT THE 3RD PIC the battery on the right of the f/r selector is the 1st battery in the pACK CHARGING PORT SHOULD GO THERE

It looks to me the grey wire and the blue wire are the charger wires and the grey one is not on the right battery, should be where the little yellow one is. Your not charging that battery with the yellow wire on it.

That is the problem, hopefully the grey wire is long enough to reach the correct pole on Battery 1, if not let me know and I'll fix you a new one, I have the same exact grey wire sitting here in my garage.

I agree with the charge wire mistake, and also get rid of those wingnuts and replace them with 1/2" Stainless nuts.

Re: New wires..... new problems (pics)
A note for Everybody....... ALWAYS buy a voltmeter when you get that first electric cart. ALWAYS test for full pack voltage when you connect the pack and again when you connect the charger. And ALWAYS post pics of the problem! Good luck
