97 ez go txt converted to 48 volts going slow .
I recently converted my 97 ez go txt to a 48 volt system (HD solenoid, directional switch, 2guage wires new Duracell 8 volt batteries, 48600 alltrax controller, plum quick black widow 48volt motor).
The problem I am having is the cart is running slower now with the 48volt motor than when I still had on the 36-volt factory motor. This just cannot be right. I labeled all of my wires and tightened the motor wires down with two wrenches to prevent movement. Checked all of my connections and just see nothing wrong. Something is just not right. How do I diagnose the problem? |

That pack voltage cannot be right?! My charger is a lester 48 volt charger. These batteries are brand new. What should my resting pack voltage be and how can I test these batteries? If one of these is bad they are going back and Im getting the trojans!

Do you have a digital meter? It’s an absolute must if you’re going to work on your cart.
The attached chart is courtesy of johnnieb. I can’t remember which battery brand it is specific to, but it’s close enough. Those numbers are to be referenced 10-12 hrs after the charger shuts off. After a full charge, you can load test the batteries by driving with the meter leads attached to the pack while you monitor the voltage. Do it going up a good hill. If necessary, you can do it for each individual battery to find out if you have one bad one. |

I don’t. They can get pricey, but I’ve heard the experts here say that even the cheapie hf ones are fine.

I switched the batteries out with a set of 8v Trojans. Same problem. Is there some type of limp mode in the alltrax sr controller?

Re: 97 ez go txt converted to 48 volts going slow .
The problem is the expectation of a 48V motor powered by a 48V battery pack spinning as fast as a 36V motor powered by a 48V battery pack.
In a nutshell, if a 48V motor is designed to put out 10ft/lb of torque at 4000RPM it will put out 10ft/lb of torque at 4000RPM when powered by a 48V battery pack. However if a 36V motor is designed to put out 10ft/lb of torque at 4000RPM, it will put out 13ft/lb of torque at 4000RPM when powered by a 48V battery pack or 10ft/lb of torque at 5320RPM. (33% increase voltage = 33% increase in both torque and RPM) |
