Default Fitting lights - Which ones, and what is involved?

Hi.

This is my first post.

I recently bought a TXT PDS buggy, 2005 year. I think it is the basic Freedom version (the specification seems right) so it doesn't have lights. I would like to add some.

I like the look of the factory Freedom light bar at the front, so I am thinking of adding this plus a set of factory tail lights. Does anyone have any opinion on whether this is a good choice, given that my priorities are;

1/ Decent light output.
2/ Ease of fitting.

I would prefer to avoid cutting into the bodywork as much as possible. Would I be right in thinking that the Freedom light bar doesn't require cutting the body? The rear lights, however, seem to come with a template for cutting the body, and I'm not sure why. I thought they ware surface mounted?

I am also wondering about how the lights are connected electrically. The lights seem to be 12 volts, but the buggy is a 36 volt system. Is there a 12 volt connection point somewhere on the existing wiring harness? Will the factory lights plug straight into an existing plug or do they have to be spliced in?

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks.

The light bar seemed ok to me if you go slow but with a little speed you'll get to see things as you hit them. I found it was best to only ride where you've been before and hope the kids didn't leave stuff in the way.

If your cart was a Freedom model - it would already have factory head / tail lights, along with the horn and brake lights. Sounds like you have just a PDS model.

Light kits are numerous, but I only use the Factory units. That is what the kit was designed for, plus ANY option you want to add later is already 'pre - wired' into the factory harness.

They cost more money that aftermarket, but worth it in the long run...

Thanks for the comments.

My buggy looks to be the base model PDS (and it does just says TXT PDS on the ID plate, not Freedom). However, according to the manual I downloaded (from here) the base model PDS is still designated Freedom. I am in the UK, so perhaps model designations differ from other markets?

I mention this because I am interested in increasing the buggy's speed by enabling Freedom mode if possible, and I understand that this setting isn't available on Fleet versions. I have searched the forum but am still not sure how I can tell whether Freedom mode is available to me. Would I be right in thinking that if the cart is a PDS model, with direction change effected via a rocker switch on the dashboard, and a run/service switch on the control unit under the seat, that Freedom mode will be available? The buggy's serial number is 2273829 if that helps anyone to answer this question.

Thanks.

Sounds to me like you have a PDS Fleet cart. But, yes, the stock PDS controller can be fitted with 4 different programming "chips" which are just jumpers really. One of which is called the "Freedom" chip and the other three are "Mild Hill", "Steep Hill", and "All Terrain". All of which mod the regen braking from high to no. The Freedom chip will get you 17-19mph....sorry , 28-31kph.

Good luck with the lights.

Hey, we still use miles and mph (even though our governement would prefer otherwise...).

I'm still not sure whether my cart can be jumpered to the Freedom speed option - I will take the controller cover off and have a look. If the pins are present I will try linking the relevant jumpers (useful guide on this site btw) and see what happens.

I will also go for the factory lights.

Thanks for the advice.
