Default Flat tire question

I have big tires on my cart. I heard a weird rubbing sound yesterday and the right front tire looked a little low. Checked the air in it and it had none. :(
I've run water over it (not with soap yet), but only discovered a bubbling small pinhole in the part of the tire that is in-between the big treads. (Sorry if I don't know the correct terminology). We added air, but it wouldn't go above 18 psi.

Can a tiny hole cause that much leakage? Would there be bubbling around the valve stem, if the problem was also there?

My husband has a kit that he used on his car tire, where you stuff some rubber into the hole, but you end up making a larger hole (than the initial pinhole).
We're trying to deal with this ourselves, since it's hard for us to get the wheel off, to take to a fix-it place.

So....can a tiny pinhole loose all the air quickly? Should we even mess with fixing it ourselves? Are they ever fixed, just by having an innertube put in?
Are they like car tires, and you're supposed to get all new ones at the same time?

I have the feeling it was from running over a honey locust thorn, of which we have a lot around here. :(

I noticed also, before I discovered the low tire, that the steering wheel was a bit hard to turn to the left. Would that have been from a flat right front tire?
If I had done damage to the tire, by driving it low for awhile, what damage would show?

Thanks for your help!

Your husbands tire plug kit may work if the tire has enough substance (plys) to hold a plug. In the meanwhile when I was offroading in the desert a bunch. I carried an assortment of panhead sheet metal screws in large sizes.
Just spit on one and run it in, you will see when it reals. Should buy you some time.
And yes, flat tire can make it very hard to turn & steer.

Also… That pinhole will not prevent that tire from getting over 18 psi… You need to check the pressure on your compressor… Make sure it’s plugged in and turned on… And if you are using a bicycle pump...You’ll need to pump faster… until you plug the holes

You might also use "GREEN SLIME" in the tires but make sure you use the tubeless one as the other one will eat the tube! Works great been using it for 30+ years one the farm, lawn tractors, and my golt carts.

The compressor was working okay..just wouldn't go above 18. Maybe I have a bigger hole somewhere else?

When you have a working compressor and the leak is faster than the fill... you can generally hear it pretty easily

Tire plugs usually work pretty well on Golf Carts. I have had success with them most of the time.

Slime or a plug may take care of it. But, if you have multiple leaks through the sidewall especially, the tire is dry rotted and the only thing that will buy you some time is a tube.

Soak the tire with soapy water, that will tell the story. As Timberwolf said, that hole should not stop it going above 18 psi. Hope this helps.
