Question Few questions about my '86 marathon

Bought a 1986 Marathon (electric) in good running condition for $500 and completely new to golf carts. My primary use will be campground driving mainly pavement and light hills.

Spent all day searching the forums but I usually end up getting '89 and up marathon answers. Therefore, I have a few questions;

Can I simply add more batteries to get to 48v power/ torque and longer use?

Can I switch from six 6v batteries to three 12v batteries and maintain a normal 36v operation?

How do I wire up a 12v stereo or lightbar?

Is there a high speed motor upgrade option available for the '86 36v marathon? (Follow up question) I see there is an '89 36v option on 'everything carts' for $1600, how do I convert my '86 to accept the '89 option?

What other action can I upgrade to get more top end and or more torque?

Thank you for being helpful to a new guy.

Default Re: Few questions about my '86 marathon

More volts = more speed. I've got an 87 36 volt resistor Marathon myself. I've put a 7th 6 volt battery in the bag well (under my back seat) to run it on 42 volts. Big improvement in power overall. I understand some here have run theirs for some time on 48 volts without major issues. That's all dependent of still being a resistor type cart. The 89 "option" would convert to a controller, but unless it's an aftermarket unit designed for the higher voltage it would almost certainly be damaged if you try 48 volts on it.
