Default '95 EzGo Medalist won't go

Have batt's charged. Key on press go pedal and just solenoid click. How do I test the solenoid, the controller and the motor? I have a DVM and am comfortable around electronic circuits. Have a manual on order. Oh also what is the function of third wire from the charging plug, two go to batt terminals. This Medalist is a 36 volt w/o cover over F/R plate. Drawings with expected voltages during tests would be awesome. Thanks!!!!

You can jump a solenoid by running a 6g cable across the 2 large posts, then try the cart. If the cart works, the solenoid is bad.

The third wire in the cart charge receptacle is the Reed circuit. It is a magnetic switch that "sees" the charger handle and disables the cart so you don't drive away wuth the charger engaged. If the Reed switch has failed the solenoid will not click and the reverse alarm will not sound. A solenoid can click and still not pass current.

Be very careful working around the battery pack. You have a nice arc welder there.

Thank you for the help. I tried jumping accross the solenoid and still no go.
My service manual should arrive today so I will dive into more troubleshooting this weekend. Thanks for the explanation of the reed switch, also. I'll post again after this weekend if I need more assistance. Any thoughts on how to test the controller? I agree saftey around the power source is imparative!!!!

I was cleaning the charge plug connectors and broke the litte reed switch. Can anyone tell me if this reed switch is normally open or normally closed. I'm thinking that it is normally open and closes when the charge plug is installed to charge. Is that correct? Has anyone found a source for just the reed switch itself? Spending $40 for a $2 part and a couple of wires is just a bummer.

The Reed switch is normally open, and closes when the charge plug is engaged via a magnet in the charge plug. It can be jumpered with a small wire and you can run that way. Just make sure you route your charger cord thru the steering wheel to remind you to unplug it before driving away. Otherwise, you will be back here telling a VERY stupid story, LOL!

I'm confused, if the switch is normally open why would you need to jumper it? Does the circuit/switch need to be closed in order to charge the batteries?

Sorry, I got that backwards. DOH!

The Reed switch is normally closed and it OPENS when the charge plug is engaged which keeps the cart from running. It does not affect the charging circuit, only the control circuit.

Then that would mean the reed switch is normally closed putting + battery voltage at the white lead coming off the switch when the the battery charge plug is not plugged into the cart. When the battery charging plug is inserted the magnet would open the switch and disable the + battery voltage to the white lead off the switch and prevent the cart from running. So to bypass the reed switch you would connect the white lead from the reed switch to the white lead of the charge plug. Is that correct?

From an old post:

In this photo disconnect the red wire from the A(+pos) connection of the cart charger receptacle. Cut the thin white Reed switch wire as close to the Reed switch itself as you can. Discard Reed switch. Install an eyelet on the newly cut white wire and attach it to the A(+pos) connection of the cart charger receptacle (where the thin red wire used to be). Your Reed switch is now bypassed.

Be sure to unplug the charger from the cart before driving away!

Oh and if your charger receptacle looks this dirty, CLEAN IT!

Ok, I got it! Slow but sure. You confused me with your first reply saying that the reed switch was normally open.
Thanks for the patience, persistance and the picture.!!!!!
