Waterproofing controller
There are a couple plugs on my Alltrax controller that dont have anything covering them and I believe water is getting in them and causing some voltage bleed over. Ive noticed when my controller gets a little wet my voltage meter will come on showing about half voltage(20-22v) even with the controller switched off. My meter is wired to only be on when the key is switched on. It did this last year when we had a lot of rain and also did it the other day when I sprayed my batteries off. I do my best to not soak the controller but some overspray got on the controller. Is there anything I can cover these plugs? How do you keep water out of the plugs?
I think the water got on the controller last year from splashing up underneath the cart. Should I block the holes on the bottom of the cart to prevent water from splashing up into the controller area? Would this cause any overheating issues? Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks |

Re: Waterproofing controller
Is it mounted flat or vertically? I did one for a couple years ago and had issues with that as well. Since then I try to keep them vertical when I install.

Re: Waterproofing controller
It’s vertical; stands with just a slight angle.

Re: Waterproofing controller
I used some clear silicon caulking on the back side (wire side) of my molex plugs. I also caulked around the perimeter of each plug connection. The silicon caulking adheres well but is also easily removed if you need to uncouple the plug.

Re: Waterproofing controller
If you believe it's water being splashed up from the holes on the bottom, you may wish to just put a "splash shield" over those holes.
That should be "quick 'n dirty" so-to-speak and accomplished by taking a piece of metal or plastic that is sized to the area you wish to cover. Then drill 3 or 4 bolt\screw holes to attach the piece....but put a spacer of maybe 1/4" or so between the shield and the floor and tighten it up. This will allow any water that gets there to still drain out around the "shield" and help keep water away from your controller. I hope this helps. |
