Question 2014 TXT 48V Fixer Upper.....Where to start

I went out and found a good deal (I think) on a 2014 TXT but it's not without some issues.

What I know:

From the EZ-GO site with serial number:
Make :625110G01
Powertrain : VEHICLE ELECTRIC-SPECIALTY
Sub Model : F/A TXT FLEET ELEC
Year : 2014

It spent some time in the Florida Keys, so it has some surface rust on the undercarriage. It has Trojan six T-875 batteries that are probably original and really don't really hold a charge. Once has a L3 (December 2013?) stamped on the negative terminal.

It came with a 913-4810-E3B Delta Q Quiq Charger. Any good?

I haven't really gotten into it yet but what should be my plan of attack?

I read about POR-15 on this site, so I was planning to start scraping, wire brushing, and getting the underside in order while I have the batteries out. Will that work?

I filled the batteries last night and gave them a charge. Also neutralized the batteries and surrounding area with baking soda and water, then lightly rinsed. It did get up to 16 mph, but only lasted about 5 minutes, if that.

Should I replace the batteries with new T-875s or are there better options out there?

It has a rear flip seat but not sure if the springs were upgraded. Are upgraded leaf springs necessary?

I will be replacing the standard roof with an extended roof.

And what is a personality plug, or reprogramming with a high speed code? Should I even mess with either right now?

I appreciate any help or suggestions you can provide.

I think the best way to tackle this is to let us know what do you want to do with it? Cruise the neghborhood? Make it a hunting buggie? Drag race? Kidding about the last one, kind of.

Would hate to offer recommendations that you don't need. I would say however to get new batteries and proceed with cleaning up anything and everything you can as well as eliminating the rust. Those two areas would be a solid start. Once that is done then you can look at doing performance options/upgrades.

The usual upgrade includes a controller, solenoid, cable set. That's a basic upgrade = 22-23mph with the new batteries you need.

So did buying a 48V versus a 36V get me anything?

I didn't think the controller would need to be upgraded since I started with 48V. But what do I know.

The stock controller can be programmed by a dealer to get you about 19 or 20 mph. Yes, 48 V is far superior to 36.

As far as the charger, no, they are not that great, but use it while it works. They have the tendency to suddenly quit working.

I have a 2014 txt48 also with a rear seat. Mine did not have the HD springs and drug the wheels with three people on it. I also have 14's on it though that are about 20.5" tall with the tire. Look underneath, springs should have 3 leads. If there is only 2 leafs (leaves?) then the springs are regular fleet model springs for the golf course fleets. It probably only goes about 14mph. Having someone unlock freedom mode will get you about 19 or so (never upgraded to freedom). I upgraded the controller to a 500amp controller and with the stock motor according to Waze, I'm seeing 23mph before I let off. I also plan to upgrade my motor soon to get a little more umph to help move a trailer around the yard.

Get your batteries and try it out. It may be just fine how its set up. I like mine a lot. The new controller and solenoid made it a way more fun!

I'll take a look at the springs. Freedom mode sounds cool. Only dealers can upgrade to freedom?

Yes- it requires a small device that Ezgo only sells to dealers. It’s a good upgrade though. I’ve had it done several times.

I used corroseal for the rusted frame. It doesn't require complete removal of the rust. Just the loose metal.
