Grinding noise from rear of cart
I’ve tried searching and didn’t find anything definitive so here’s my issue.
I just got my very first golf cart and it’s for use in our RV park. It’s a 2010 ezgo TXT 48 volt. When I’m driving along just cruising at any speed and let off the accelerator, there is a grinding sound coming from the back of the cart. To me it’s the same sound you would get if you had drum brakes with rusty drums. It doesn’t make the sound when applying the brakes. It will also make the sound to a lesser degree when you are cruising at any speed, let off the accelerator and then start to accelerate again. The dealer that I bought it from Delivered it to me on Wednesday and when I complained, they picked it up on Thursday. They delivered it back on Friday and said that the tightened the rear hubs. It’s not as bad as it was but it’s still there and seems to be getting worse as I drive it more. Thanks for any advice or help that you can offer so that on Monday I can at least try to steer the dealer in some kind of educated direction. Thanks Greg |

Re: Grinding noise from rear of cart
Agree, pull rear drums and check condition of brake shoes and drums.
Brakes on txt’s are mecanical brakes similar to early model cars. Check brake cables, self adjusters, springs, ect. There is a step by step procedure on how to inspect and adjust brakes on txt’s in the manual you can find here on front page stickies. Do not short cut any of these adjustment steps as far as cable brake shoe adjustments. They need to be done in correct order. Let us know what you find.😊 |

Re: Grinding noise from rear of cart
Thanks for the replies.
I’m not very handy at all when it comes to mechanical things but wouldn’t the grinding happen when I apply the brakes if it was brake related?? Thanks |

Re: Grinding noise from rear of cart
No, your putting pressure on the entire system then. You let it go and don't do anything with them and they will start making some serious sounds then because you will be litterly grinding the hub Everytime you use them. You will know the distinct sound of metal to metal under pressure if your lucky and they stay togather that long.if they quite down some when applied they could possibly save your hub and like the man said if your adjusters aren't working and the hub is full of brake dust than your shoes will be sloppy thus making the racket. Do your self a favor and get them hubs off and look at your brakes while if your lucky you can still get them off without beating them off.

Re: Grinding noise from rear of cart
It can also be motor coupler noise as well. That one is common if there's enough hours on the motor itself. If that's it, it won't self-destruct. I have a hard time explaining that to new owners though they are scared to death of any noise. I tell them it's a golf car not a Cadillac, it's going to be noisier anyway!

Re: Grinding noise from rear of cart
So today I jacked up the cart and checked 1 wheel at a time. I didn’t remove the wheels just tried turning them by hand. The fronts spun freely and the rears were harder to turn but I couldn’t hear any rubbing sounds.
I did notice that three of the wheels had some play in the when I pulled them back and forth (in and out). The right rear had quite a bit of play in it. (Wheel Bearing) |

Not saying problems dont need to be fixed, but there's only so much to be done before you have a brand new cart. |
