Default EZGO Slow up hills

Thanks again to you all! I've gone from a '55 Chevy Delray and an 861 Ford tractor to this '98 EZ GO that I've had now for about a year and I think I like working on the mechanical stuff on it a lot better than on it's two predecessors. Electrical, NOW THAT'S A DIFFERENT STORY!!!
Where I use my cart is hilly, rolling hills and not steep. The worst hill I climb is about 1/4 mile long and is a gradual climb. When I start up it I'm going full blast ,with no passenger, and by the time I get through the worst part of the incline I'm running fairly slow. I could live with that BUT, there are a few carts that out pull me and go on by me. On a flat run I run okay but it's those slight inclines I'm having trouble with.
My controller is supposed to be a high performance whatever amperage thight might be. (mounted beneath seat on pass. side in front of fender with no toggle switch on cover) Is wired with 6 ga. wires and running stock wheels. I know I'm leaving something out but that's basically it.
EMP MOTOR? What kind of controller will I need or will the one I have work with it? Need to upgrade anything else?
Sorry for the long post AND I HOPE I'M IN THE RIGHT FORUM!
Glad to meet you guys and I come to you HUMBLY with hat in hand asking for your advice and input. Thanks, Larry

Did you say you have a run/tow switch on the controller cover?

Tungpo1! Glad you know where my reply went. I thought I had lost it in cyber space. Not too good with computers I guess cause they run on electricity too!!!!
No tungpo1, no run/tow switch. Plain cover.

What you need is a 400 to 500 amp controller, 4 guage wire, emp motor and good solenoid and you will be booking with good torque. You have a perfect cart to uprade!!!

Tungpo1, I'm talkin' really eat up on this end. What do I ask for when I go for an EMP? What H.P.? Or is there just one for my particular upgrade. Would I have to send my motor off or do they have them ready to go.
I finally have a game plan,THANKS TO YOU, and I'm really excited as the wife has given me the go ahead on the motor. I'll just have to tell her it takes a motor for each wheel so that I can offset the controller and other items' expense.
Thanks again Tungpo1, for being a big help!
Larry

No problemo your gonna have to send in your motor for a core charge!!! Last I spoke with them your looking around a two week turn around time they are busy as hell. Just let them know your cart info plus they will know what motor when they get your core. Ask for Andrea and tell her Ron from East coast custom carts inc sent you as well as the BGW forum they will take care of you. Just be ready to haul A$$!!!!! (well compared to what you have now)

Tungpo1. I didn't want to pull controller until I just had to and just did so's I could call EMP. The controller I have is a Curtis 400 Amp. The motor tag says: Electric Vehicle Systems,Inc.
pt.#73124
pt.#BD4-4001
36v class H
ser.#6249
RATING- - AU 2500 HIGH SPEED
Should I alter my previous game plan? Will just a motor upgrade do? Would appreciate your input and/or advise again. Larry

You already have a good controller. On the motor just explain to Chuck or Andrea what the cart is doing now and what you want the cart to do and they will build it. Another option is their 2 speed motor....you will have the best of both worlds then. I think its another $65 or so for the switch or you could get the 2 speed and leave it hard wired in either mode, Torque or speed. I leave mine in high speed mode just because the torque is just as good in speed.

While your doing the upgrade you really need to consider upgrading to 4g cables. They will help alot pulling those hills. The cables alone will show improvement on those hills.

Last edited by roady89; 09-09-2007 at 09:33 AM.. Reason: Correction on the price of the 2 speed switch. I think its $65 in stead of $50, I edited the post to reflect the changes.
