I haven't heard man impressive shunt wound rebuilds that gain you alot. You did make sure the correct field map was programmed in that alltrax for that motor didn't you. If not you could burn up the controller and or motor.

This is the first complaint I've heard about EMP but I think this is mainly what cart it was installed on. When I talked with EMP they said they couldn't do much with a shunt motor and mentioned the speed chip as a cheaper solution. Unless he thought he was going to gain torque with the redesign, he should have just went with the controller to start with. As for me, I just got a switchable EMP motor and can't wait to install it in a 2000 series club car. I should be getting 20 to 23mph.

Alltrax controller will work ok with stock PDS motor. I use the stock 36v rated motor on 48v mod on a hot and hilly environment with excellent results.
Don't know how will work with EMP modified shunt motor.
The stock PDS motor field program on the Alltrax is #4 but if EMP has modified slightly the field you will need consulting with EMP and/or Alltrax regarding the issue BEFORE plugin the controller to the motor.
Also if the motor was dyno tested by EMP they can tell how many HP does the motor generate on dyno, it could be 8.1hp (call EMP regarding this) BUT the stock 300amp PDS controller will not take the motor to that high HP, you need a 400 or 500 amp controller.
The GE controllers are good controllers also but I like the fact of the Alltrax that fits under the case using some kind of frame to lift the cover you can even fit the heavy duty solenoid and have everything covered. GE controller will not let the cover on.

Edit:
I am assuming you have the PDS stock controller but reading between lines you said the controller model 3 m08-2655 which I don't what you are talking about, probably a DCS controller. Either PDS or DCS are the only stock regen controllers that will work with shunt wound motors.

thats the model # for the motor... NOT THE CONTROLLER

also i have sold over 100 alltrax controller i know what they can do with the stock motor....
for a lifted cart we like to use the 600amp controller on the pds it brings it alive...

I'm sorry for misreading the MOTOR model! My apologizes!

If I think logically then I would assume that if the motor works with the stock controller you will need no field map programming on the Alltrax other than the factory #4 or #3 (pds or dcs) but I would call EMP before going ahead.
I have use the stock motor on 600dcx also but burnt fields in 2 motors with that controller... (on 48v). Do you use the 600 on 36v mostly or 48v?

I did install also a lot of Alltrax controller in the last 4 years. On the beginning there was a lot of issues with the controller, we were getting 20 to 30% of controller return for guarantee but lately we haven't had problems and I still like them a lot.
I was told by 2 colleagues that the GE controller is way much better for them but I stick with Alltrax.

we have used them on both 36 and 48 volts ont he 48 volts you need to run a bigger tire like 24" tall
