Default Do I have a bad Solenoid '88 EzGo

New to carts....Could a bad solenoid cause the (resistors ??) to become extremely hot when charging the batteries. I'm saying resistors b/c of a diagram I found on this forum. The square box I'm referring to is located between the batteries and has the cables going to the speed control switch? If not the solenoid what have I done wrong. I replaced 2 batteries and when I wired them up and put the cart on the charger I noticed that box??? getting extremely hot...

Welcome jagun65, that's a loaded question....... so many possibilities.
Why did you replace 2 batteries?
Which 2 batteries did you replace?
I hope you have a voltmeter!!!!!!
What was the pack voltage before the replacement and what is it after?

3 of the 6 batteries were replaced 1 week before i got the cart. So i checked the remaining 3 and 2 (front 2 under the driver side) had dead cells which is why i replaced them. I have checked the voltage and all are 5.95v to 6.1v .
A few weeks back my daughter informed me that the cart would move on its own when the f/r switch was "ON" I lightly tapped the solenoid and that stopped which tells me that i do need to replace the solenoid for that reason but would that cause the (i'm new to all of this so I'm not sure the verbage) resistor box or whatever it is to heat up.
I'm really baffled as to what changed from the time i parked the cart and reinstalled the batteries yesterday that is causing this problem.

Excellent history report...this can happen if the solenoid is sticking in the on position and the throttle wiper is not returning to zero .... there will a little juice going thru the resistor. Change the solenoid and check to see thatr the gas peddle is coming all the way up. Try pulling up the pedel by hand after you release it? Turn the key off when you get out of the cart.

The old batteries charge at a slower rate then the new causing the charger to COOK the new batteries. This is when the damage to the new batteries occures

Replacing the coil did the job......and you guys scared me with the possibility of frying the new batteries....i replaced the last one just to be safe.

Thanks for the help....you'll be hearing from me again soon, I'm sure...
