1979 3 wheeler charging question
I recently purchased a 1979 ez-go cart. The charger has a timer on it , I am not sure how long I should set the timer for. For instance if the cart is completely spent, how many hours would it take to give the batteries a full charge without overcharging? How about if I only use it for 2 hours, how much time then?

The timer will stop when it's fully charged no matter how much time is left....at least it supposed to.

Re: 1979 3 wheeler charging question
the best way to tell is put it on charge whn you are going to be around ans watch the meter on the front when it gets down low the pack is charged. no real way to tell every pack is different as is every charger
some of the older chargers dont have the auto off if it is a textron with a green front id should auto off but if it has a black front it is not an auto off |

Re: 1979 3 wheeler charging question
Thanx, for the replys I have the black face charger ,it only has a timer and a meter on the front. I let it charge for 6 hours, the batteries made a lot of bubbling noise (more so then my other cart with automatic charger) , and the meter was still at 5amps when I shut it off. Would that be a good charge?

Re: 1979 3 wheeler charging question
Only way to tell for sure about charging is to do a hydrometer test with a temperature correction scale on side. When ALL battery cells reach 1.277 they will be fully charged. Anything less is not fully charged.
Voltage after sitting for 1-2 hours should be 6.37 approx. |

Re: 1979 3 wheeler charging question
You don't see to many black faced chargers anymore.....but yea. Those run til the timer stops. When I run mine down ALL THE WAY it typically takes around 10 hours to fully charge the pack. (overnight)
Batteries bubbling doesn't always mean its fully charged. As OLD MEC said, you really need a hydrometer test or AT LEAST a volt guage of some sort. Problem with a guage is you'll have to shut it down and wait a bit to take a TRUE reading. |
