Default Old 1986 3 wheeler question

Still learning here, Is a older 1986 3 wheeler still called a Marathon? When did they change to 4 wheels? If I buy a manual for an 1986 electric will it cover 3 wheelers? So many unanswered questions I have, so you can tell I am new an somewhat lost. I am also wondering if there is a light kit for these older 3 wheel models? If there are members with older 3 wheelers, please help me turn on the lights so I can see where I am going....lol

Ezgo continued to produce 3 wheel models years after they made the 4 wheeler. They did so because the 3 wheeler could go places with it's tighter turning radius that the 4 wheeler could not..... Most of it's use was indoors like warehouse or airport service... There is not a separate 3 wheel manual that I am aware of..... lights are gonna be home wired. remember 2 wires to every light NO BODY GROUND for anything...... good luck

Thanks Scotty, I am an aircraft electrician, so wiring lights wont be a problem. I was wondering if they had ready made kits for this type of cart or was I going to buy other light kits and modify mounting brackets etc... I am excited to own my first golf cart even if it is an antique that needs a lot of work. Any advice is appreciated. I would love to find a parts breakdown of this 3 wheeler, so when I rip it apart it will be easier to put back together. I have already learned much from all the forum threads. I will continue to read and learn. Thanks again.

I think you are on your own..... light kits from any auto parts house work ..... half the fun is deciding how and where to mount them

Check with our sponsors. I think (<-- dangerous) that the 3 wheeled X-cars and Marathons were available in Freedom trim so the wiring harness for all the goodies may still be available.

Just curious, why no body ground? I just put lights on the 85 marathon I just bought. I used a light kit from Autozone and small clearances lights fro tail lights. the headlights had both hot and ground wires and I ran both of them to the respective battery terminals. The clearance lights have only one hot wire and are supposed to ground thru the strap and screws.
I mounted them on the support bars to the canopy and then ran agraound wire from it to the battery. works great will it cause any problems?

Electric carts use a 2 wire system.... Stray voltage from the battery pack often reaches the frame unwanted.......It will play heck with anything grounded to the body... Electric carts ONLY
