voltage upgrade
I am thinking of going form a 36 to 48 volt setup. any ideas would be welcome. I have a 1994.5 medalist cart. this cart has always had trouble keeping the batteries up with the orignal charger. currently the controler appears to be done for. any way to tell for sure? also the batteries will get to 12 volts but have low specific gravity and are about 5 yrs old. I am going to change them out and my try to go to 48 volts for more power if I have to replace the controler any way.
Any help would be welcome.... thanks |

Re: voltage upgrade
The medalist is a Series cart and will do well on 48v You should examine your maintenance program or usage to determine what is so hard on the batteries before investing in another set and an upgraded controller?

Re: voltage upgrade
my problem is the usual I think. long periods of no use and subject to drop in battery voltage. I will most likely get rid of the old charger and go to a SMART type of charger that can be left on while I am away. I will also go ahead and replace as much wiring as need and try to go to 4 awg if I go to 48volts or just clean up and check the 6 awg if I stay 36.,

Re: voltage upgrade
It is recommended that you replace the cables when you replace the batteries......corrosion happens on the iinside of the cable were it can not be seen unless you cut the cable in half...this corrosion creates resistance.
