Thumbs down Cart wont reverse

i have a 96 EZGO Txt that i fully restored and cleaned. Not sure if it ran before i got it since it was completely dead but after putting it all back together and using decent battries i got it to go forward (about 17mph) after bout 20 steps on the pedal (guess stuck selinoid) but when i shift to reverse i hear the buzzer and the selinoid clicking but it wont move. Any suggestions??

Sorry COURTESYCART correction here, FLEET TXT is a Series cart with by the leg switch. DCS it is a Regenerative cart with by the leg switch ALSO.
PDS is the the one with dash switch.
Both PDS and DCS have a switch on the controller box or run/tow toggle switch.

Seems for what you are saying about the year you have a series cart.

It’s a Series cart with the manual switch by the legs. Not regenerative, don’t see a wire coming off the end of the motor.

But GOOD news, I figured it out! I took the F/R switch apart to clean it and prob didn’t tighten it all the way. The bottom line is it works when I move the switch all the way to reverse and then just a tad back…it catches and reverses!!

Also its almost all back together, below is a pic…

The only thing is that its STOCK and SLOW
Still need to purchase battries but im really considering a 48v upgrade or at least a motor/controller upgrade to get it ~21 MPH. I live in Florida and mostly flat environment and dont really need travel very far...any suggestions.

You can start with the controller upgrade so far with stock motor. Being a series cart with the same motor and higher voltage you can get much better results! For the 48v remember you will need a 48v charger unless you want to go for the 8 6v set in what case you can use the existing charger + a 12v charger like Gornoman did on his, look for his thread about the 48v conversion... best!

You mean stick w 36v and just do a controller upgrade? Or do 48v + controller w stock motor? Im not sure if the motor can hanlde 48v...label off the motor attached.

You can get an alltrax AXE. It is multivoltage from 24 to 48, so you can still use at 36v, gain some torque, not speed until you do a voltage conversion with same controller. This way you have the chance to slowly escalate the system without doing it all at once which is why many people are reluctant to upgrade, money!
And yes!!! positive that motor will handle 48v NO PROBLEM, those motors are rated to up to 96v volts, so with the 48v you are within the safe area.
