One charger - two carts - different results
I've got one charger and two carts.
When I charge one cart, the charge process seems to go normally. I.e., the charger runs a few hours and then shuts down. When I check the water in the batteries in the morning, its seems to be fine. And the cart runs fine. When I charge the second cart, the charger never seems to shut off and when I look, a lot of water is gone from the batteries and I have to top them up again. Also, there's bubbling in the batteries when I open them and things seem warm. Also, I can hear a noise coming from the battery compartment when I have the seat up. It seems like a kind of high pitched squeal or hiss. This noise is present with the switch in tow or run (these are '97 & '98 DCS carts). When I run the cart, it seems normal in terms of how it performs. I'm suspecting one of more of the batteries in the second cart but I'd love to get other folk's thoughts on this. My current plan is to isolate the six batteries and see what each one's voltage looks like and see if there's an oddball in the bunch. My other idea would be to swap the six batteries from one cart to the other and see if the weirdness follows the move. Your thoughts? |

Re: One charger - two carts - different results
The results would move to the other cart. Your second cart has older or more used batteries than the first.
It's not abnormal for batteries to make noise when charging. The older they are they longer the re-charge will take and as a result more heat and evaporation....One bad battery wil amplify that effect I wouldn't worry about it, unless the second cart has problems |

Batteries are getting old and you may have a bad battery which is causing the no turn off problem with the charger. If the batteries are hisssing after they are charged I would be very carefull with it because it may explode if it's ran down to far.
Check all the cables to see if they are good and tight. |

Andy,
Yes, I was wondering if I might have a serious problem. Hissing noises never bode well. I'm going to isolate each battery and see how many volts it has and see if one's weird. |

Re: One charger - two carts - different results
That's probably the best bet. You'll know exactly what you're working with then.
They should only heat up while charging and shouldn't make noise while in operation. |
