EZ NO go

I am an autoshop instructor who has been enlisted to repair the campus carts too. I am new to the ezgo, but can work my way around an engine. This cart has all fullycharged batteries(6.0-6.6 per battery). I can hear teh solenoid engage and click when the throttle is pressed, but there is no forward or reverse movement. I was told that reverse went first and then forward quit too. any help would be appreciated.

it would help to know the year of the car... to find that get us the model number that is on the passenger side of the dash...

Different versions of the Ez-Gos have different things to break.. so without that I'm at a loss as to tell you what to look for...

its a 1998 e-z-go txt. i was recommended to replace the switch($10

and the controller($400). Thismay be the case but I am skeptical to spend money with only the recommendation of a parts company. What do you all think????

It's always smart to be skeptical.

What parts company?

Some parts companies are only after your money, others want your money now, and your money later, so we treat you right.

Do you have a mechanical F/R switch (in front of your controller) or do you have two little micro switches behind your f/r handle?

Usually the killer for electirics, Give each battery cable a good twist and tug, it could just possibly be a corroded cable, I had trouble and it had the same syptoms. Also to add to phasetim's post, it could have a rocker switch in the dash if its a PDS system.

If it's a '98 it cannot be a PDS. It's either a Fleet or a DCS. A DCS has a toggle switch on the controller cover under the passenger seat. A Fleet has no switch.

Easy to verify the solenoid on a Fleet cart. Jack the rear wheels up and install a short 6g jumper across the large terminals of the solenoid leaving all other wiring intact. If the cart runs good, the solenoid is faulty. DCS carts have a different circuitry and this test is not recommended for them.

i think it's a dcs, there is a mechanical f/r switch that is connected to a rod that looks to be connected to a mechanical switch in front of the controller. I hope that makes sense. There is a clicking sound from the controller case when the throttle is pressed in either forward or reverse.

The toggle switch on the DCS controller cover has NO rod connected to it. look in this thread for diagrams of DCS and non-DCS controllers. It will show the toggle switch on the cover.

If your cart is a non-DCS (fleet car) the you may find help in this threads repair manual. it has a section on non-PDS (fleet car) 2001 and up. it may be the same or close to your cart

You have a Fleet style cart with a series motor. Lets do the normal list of things to check first.

Take all the cables loose one at a time and clean them and put them right back on where they came off. Thats gonna be the only way to eliminate a cable connection. If its like any other unmaintained electric cart the cables are probly corroded. The cables need to be checked at least once a month and the electrolyte level batteries at least the same. After you check all that..as you push the pedal down wiggle the F/R switch back and forth...If the cart jumps a little you have a bad contact in the forward/reverse switch.

Reverse going and then forward in the controller?!?!....I dont know who you talked to my freind but stay far far away from that dealer. I have never heard of that.

I've seen it in Club Car I.Q. controllers(and maybe in a pds or dcs controlller), but not in a fleet ez-go car. Mainly because in a fleet ez-go the controller has nothing to do with reverse, its all done through the f/r switch.

I would also firmly tug on all your motor wires, you may have one of those burnt off as well. The best thing you can do is check the post ruredy mentioned and find the troubleshooting tech tree. (i think its under the "speed control" category
