48v upgrade - Battery charger question?
Planning on a upgrade to a 48v from a 36v. Getting all new batteries so a 36v +12v wont work for me. My question is, can i use any 48v charger on my EZGO, (ex. Yamaha if i change the plug to match mine)?
Also, has anyone had any experience with the Schauer chargers? They are about $300 on eBay and are 48v/15amp w float. http://cgi.ebay.com/48-Volt-Golf-Car...lenotsupported |

Re: 48v upgrade - Battery charger question?
I've been eyeballing those chargers for some time now and will get one next year when I upgrade from 42v to 48v. I've done quite a bit of research on those specific chargers and they are not only light and all electronic but a 3 stage charger to boot. IMHO much better than any of those ferro resonant chargers out there and 1/2 the cost too. I'm trying to milk the last bit out of my 5 year old 6v Trojans before I go to 8v for my upgrade.

Ya those chargers def seem nice, i wish some more ppl would respond that actually own them and used them for some time to see how they hold up...
I was even looking at used 48v chargers to keep the upgrade cost down but nothing really compares to those, even beat up old chargers are still in the $150 range. |

Re: 48v upgrade - Battery charger question?
Does the charger automatically turns off when charge is complete? I assume ur using this on your ezgo?
I was talking to a vendor about a club car charger and when used on a ezgo it needs some kind of a onboard computer to let it know when to turn on/off... |

Re: 48v upgrade - Battery charger question?
The charger not only shuts off but can be left plugged in and will come back on in a float mode if it needs to bring the charge back up. These are an ideal charger for someone who leaves his cart idle for periods of time and has to get someone to unplug and replug the charger to get it going again. The ferro resonant chargers are old style and are likely to be replaced with 3 stage chargers some day.
