EZGO Elec Runs when on stands but not on ground!

I'm trying to help my neighbor. He has a 95 electric EZGO. Over the 4th, he loaned this to a teenager. The youth towed it back with a flat tire at 3 AM (it was towed without flipping the switch for towing to the tow position). Now it won't run. Has strong batteries. Connections good. I jacked it up and with the wheels off the ground the passenger rear tire operates in either direction (F&R). When on the ground it makes a noise, jumps ever so slightly, and then it is quite. Can put the switch for towing in the tow position and back into normal operation and with the tire on the ground it has a slight click and then all is quiet again.

When the back wheel is spinning it does make a noise that I don't think it should. An ever so slight clicking noise and intermitent rumble.

Any ideas before I start to tear apart?

Sounds to me like the batteries are questionable. Wait for a spark specialist, one will be here shortly...
A teenager?? On the 4th?? At night??

while it is up on stands hold the break and hit the gas see if you hear a gringing sound if you do it is probably a stripped hub

Batteries all test fine. 6.4 V each and good specific gravity. Teenager on 4th at night? Yep, you heard it right. Owner had it coming! I think there was beer there too. Bad combination. All that being said though, still want to fix it. Go figure!

I have seen this alot after a beer tournament at the golf where i work. pretty sure you have a spun brake drum hub. Try to determine if left or right, pull damaged hub off and using a flat screwdriver clean the spline grooves out. A new brake drum costs about 50.00. ARROWWOOD

I did what you suggested. No grinding noise. Now when put back on the ground it is working. Has worked all weekend too. I guess it could be a drum that has found a spot to make it work and will shear this spot too. For now it is in a don't fix it unless it is broken mode. Next, I'll pull the drums and see. Thanks for the input. If I find that it is a drum or that it is something else I will post an addition to this thread.

if it just went back to working i dont thing it is the drum when they strip they strip i bet there is a bad connection somewere make sure you check them all wires even to the motor

Problem turned out to be one bad battery. Replaced it and now it works like it is supposed to work. Go figure!
