Warm Batteries
I've got two DCS EZ-GOs. One is a '97 and one is a '98. I've also got two chargers. We run both of these carts around the nursery here daily and plug them in over night. In the mornings, I've noticed that the amp meters on both chargers have gone to zero indicating their recharge cycles are done. But, when I feel the sides on the batteries in the '97 cart in the morning, they are warm while the ones in the '98 cart are always cool. I've tried switching the carts between the two chargers and the problem follows the '97 cart.
I'm going to measure the voltages on each of the six batteries in the '97 cart and see if I have one or more odd balls in the group. My question is, would having one or more batteries with low voltages cause a situation where the batteries are warm in the morning or should I be looking elsewhere? Thanks! |

Re: Warm Batteries
Could be. The warm batteries have not had time to cool as the other cart has.... older weaker batteries (or if you have 1 bad in the pack) will take longer to charge .... If the volt meter is in decisive, try a hydrometer on each cell. It only takes one shorted out (low reading) cell to cause the problem you are describing.

Re: Warm Batteries
One bad cell in one battery can lead to heating the rest of the pack as the charger continues to try and bring that one battery up.
Check the specific gravity of each cell on the suspect pack. OK, and what he said too! |

Re: Warm Batteries
also make sure you have good clean connections on the pack. Having corroded/bad connections make the charger work harder to charge the pack.
