ezgo slow take off
hi i'm new to the forum and to golf carts. i have a 1989 ez go 36v that i just put new batteries in and the cart runs fine on level ground but takes off slowly and now wont climb hills anymore. I also noticed that there seems to be no difference in speed from half to full throttle. Thanks for your time and expertise any help would be greatly appreciated !

Re: ezgo slow take off
Assuming a controller cart, check the throttle potentiometer. Should be zero ohms at rest, less than 10 ohms at solenoid activation and a smooth rise to around 5000-5500 ohm at full throttle.
Should be black and white wires going to controller. Remove at controller to check. |

Re: ezgo slow take off
There is an upper limit where the controller will shut down and I think you are pretty close but thought 7k was the number. Don't remember. You can adjust the pot linkage but be advised they are very touchy when adjusting.
Just generally speaking, that era stock cart on fresh batteries will only do 12mph or so and will be a dog on hills with any grade. They are what they are! Break out the cash for performance! |

Re: ezgo slow take off
thanks for all the input, this forum is very helpful and everyone is willing to help! something has gone wrong, because i used to ride in the trails (not like the ones you guys attack) and never had a problem, i would spin out on a hill before it would stop climing, and now tackling the ramp on my trailer is an issue. speed is about the same as always, just very low torque.
thanks again! |

Re: ezgo slow take off
You may want to check your hubs. Jack the cart up and see if it runs ok. The hubs could be about striped out and that's why you have less torque.
Just a thought. |
