Speed control
I'm new to golf carts, I bought a 1988 ez go electric last saturday. I have quite a few questions but this one concerns me the most...... I'm having a problem with the throttle, it seems like I have to push the pedal down farther than needed just to get the cart to start moving, once it gets going and I continue to push the pedal down to get going faster it hits a dead spot and then jerks forward. I understand there is a speed switch board with contacts on it under the seat. What I have done to try and find the problem is remove the seat and press the pedal down while watching the board at the same time, it seems like the only time I'm getting any response from the contacts is when it crosses the second, third and fifth contact. I can also feel five clicks in the pedal every time i press the pedal to take off, is this normal and can anyone tell me if I need to make adjustments or buy new parts?

Re: Speed control
I was also wondering how dangerous it is to stick your hands in around the batteries and all of the connections? Could I just unhook the cable off the last battery before I do any work?

Re: Speed control
The wiper rests on the first peg and it should start to move after you kick the lower switch in and/or you move to the first peg.
If there is a wire that goes from the second peg to the solenoid, the cart should move as soon as the switch under the wiper engages (I believe). The upper most peg is straight connection from batteries to motor. Each of the other pegs connect to the resistor pack to give 4 speeds (other than stop). If one of the speeds is broken and the rest work, the wire from the wiper switch to the resistor pack is broken or not making connection. |

Re: Speed control
Is the resistor pack the solenoid? Is it normal to feel the wiper rubbing across each contact?

Re: Speed control
You might have a broken resistor coil in the box.....
