A standard shop cord (12 gauge) is heavy enough. Do NOT use a small appliance cord! The cord will get hot and could start a fire!

Look on the back of the charger. It should show you how many amps the charger uses. something like 120v10a or something along these lines.

a 12 gauge cord 50' long is good upto 15 amps.
a 14 gauge cord 15' long is good upto 15 amps.

so measure your distance you need to span and look at the charger to find out how many amps it pulls, then got lowes or where ever and find a cord in that length that has a higher rating than the amps you need.

And do not leave any part of the cord tightly coiled.

Thanks Gorno. I never thought about a spooled cord holding heat. I was thinking more about polarity or magnetism. Learn something new everyday.

Especially if it is under rated for the job.

It will spark and burn the house down in a heartbeat!

I wouldn't recommend using a drop cord unless it just can't be done any other way. Last resort.

Andy,

Would you mind telling me why a "drop cord" what ever that is should not be used? A "extension cord" of the proper gauge for the amperage and distance seems appropriate. Just trying to learn here.
