93 EZGO XI-500 w/o torque
Hi all. Some of this has been coverd in this thread , but I wanted to separate to avoid confusion. Some of this will address the questions posed in the other thread that I think were directed to my cart.
I'm a newbie here who had gotten my hands on an EZGO XI-500 36V industrial cart around 2002 or so. It had a charger but no batteries. I went to Sam's club and put in the only six volt golf cart batteries they sold. The manuals had come with it, so I wired it the best I could and everything worked fine. We used it a lot for hunting, and it did not have heated storage. A couple of years ago it didn't have the same power it used to. I checked the batteries and they were getting low on water so I refilled. The performance was no better. It would go fine once it was up to speed (which took a while), but if you went up a hill or in tall grass it dogged down. There was a shop that worked on carts nearby, so we took it there. They simply replaced the batteries with ones that were a hell of a lot more expensive than the ones I got at Sam's. Performance was worse if anything after that. It finally got back to the shop and they replaced a resistor. Performance was some better but it wouldn't charge. I just tried it with new batteries (Energizer from Sam's, not the best I know) and it was working again but still with the no starting power, no torque. No attempt has been made as of yet to thoroughly clean the connections. I have already learned a few things from the helpful folks on the board. I'm pretty sure that this is a resistor cart. There is a chance I will get my eyes on the cart this weekend (it is some distance away) and I wondered what areas you trouble-shooter specialists would need photos of to help determine what type of cart it is and what could be potential issues. Hopefully I can get some things checked and some photos taken. Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks, David |

An overhead pic of the battery bay can usually determine which system is in the cart.

Re: 93 EZGO XI-500 w/o torque
OK, so I didn't get out to the cart, but I did get some pictures sent to me. These should help with the ID of the type of cart, and maybe someone may see an area to investigate for a possible solution to the lack of torque. The batteries shown are bad, I think one or two were shot from the start. Any help is appreciated!

Those pictures look just like my '92 Marathon controller cart.
