Key-on light project
I can see a lot of you are project kind of guys so here is one some of you might be interested in.
I am just learning the ins and outs of these carts and something that seemed like a annoyance was I kept leaving the key on after I was done fooling around with it. Some carts may have this already but I like doing electrical stuff so I decided what I needed was a little green light on my dashboard that was on when the key was on. Off to Radio Shack I went. I bought a two pack of small (1/4") 12v green lights PN272-334. I have a drawer full of 1/2w resistors and I started checking resistors that would get me something slightly below 12v at the light. It works out that with that light connected to a 36v battery bank that was at just over 37v a 470ohm 1/2w resistor brought the voltage at the light to 11.6. Those lights on 12v or a little more were too bright so that seems about right and it should last forever at the lower voltage. Radio Shack may or may not have 470ohm resistors separately but they are in their 1/2w resistor assortment that is about 6 bucks. Any light 24-28ga two conductor wire will work. Connect one wire to a B neg spot anywhere (I went to the Battery neg terminal where the charge wire is connected) and connect the other one to the cold side of the ignition switch. Pick a spot on the dash-drill a hole-mount the light-run the wires and you are done. I am going to 42v soon but my ignition switch circuit will be tapped to 36v for the 36v 586 solenoid. There you go-something to do on a rainy day. Jim |

Re: Key-on light project
Update
The more I looked at the brightness of the light after I got it installed in the dash I added a 100ohm 1/2w resistor down at the battery negative connection to dim it down some more. It would have been a PITA to remove the light from the dash as I had put the 470 ohm resistor on the light pigtail. Hindsight being 20-20 I should have just hooked the wires to the light without the resistor and put it down where it is accessable at the battery post. Live and learn. I put my finger over the flash so the light would show. It is not as bright as the photo shows. Jim |

Re: Key-on light project
Good job!
I don't think I need one for my cart as my LED state of charge meter is only on when the key is on. |
