New lights completely melted inline fuse
2005 EZGO TXT DPS
Came with freedom light but added headlights as well, well I blew the 20amp inline fuse and melted case. Now there was water inside the case but not sure if that caused the failure or happened because of the failure. Do I just replace with another inline 20amp or go to something else? I will be adding stereo soon, but not immediatly. So far just wheels, with 2.5" spacers, fenders, GT wheel with matching inserts, and the headlights. |

Re: New lights completely melted inline fuse
r u trying to run all the lights off 1 circuit?
if so that is your problem. you are pulling too many amps with all those lights. |

Re: New lights completely melted inline fuse
Unless there is a hidden short somewhere in the wiring harnesses, this is a classic example of under-wiring. The circuit is drawing less than 20 amps OR the fuse would have blown, but the wiring carrying that load is oabviously too thin. The wiring is undersized for the load. Capeesh?

Well the freedom light and the taillights were on it already, so I will replace the two headlight wiring with something more substantial and see if that works.

Re: New lights completely melted inline fuse
Once again, assuming no direct shorts in the wiring, you can leave each LEG of the circuit sized as is, after all, those wires are sized correctly for their load. What you need to do is get an inline fuse holder assembly that has a 12g (or heavier) pigtail, not a wimpy 18g pigtail. From the point where the 2 circuits converge the wire must be sized to handle BOTH LOADS AT ONCE.

Re: New lights completely melted inline fuse
If you have a factory light bar kit then it came with a wiring harness as well as the fuse block assembly Gorno is refering to. If you don't have a fuse block, then you might want to also check for bad splices or wiring. Either way you need additional fuses to power additional lights.
