Help with 6:1 gear swap
Well, I finished my 48V TXT conversion and put in a 650amp alltrax. What a difference in torque...it'll run on the back tires only for a good 30 feet! Unfortunately, wheelies and scratching up the driveway and fairways have worn out their welcome Now, it's time to swap out the gears for some better times to the front of the hood.
I purchased a 6:1 set from one of the site sponsors and have removed the axle/motor from under my rig. Case cover is off, axles are withdrawn and big gear is changed out. Now, I'm having trouble removing the motor to get to the little gear. Do I need a bearing press or any ideas? I might just put a new motor in while I'm at it since my 48V apparently will burn up soon as per a couple posts I have read. Thanks in advance for the responses! MD |

Re: Help with 6:1 gear swap
I'll tell you how mine went....I had a bearing press bolted it up, tightend it very little and the bearings slid right off. I probly could have slipped the bearings off by hand if I would have tried. I can't say if they are all like that.

Re: Help with 6:1 gear swap
What makes you think your motor will burn up? Is it a PDS? You should have NO problems with a series motor.

Re: Help with 6:1 gear swap
I've had many tell me that my series motor would fry after a year or two with a 48v system.
I'm not to the point yet of pulling the small piece. I can't get my motor off and also have questions about getting out the reduction gear complex. I've pulled out the big gear hooked to the axles and am looking into the casing and looking at a total of three gears...two together and one on the motor stem. Any idea how to remove the motor (pull hard?) and what about the two together??? Just don't want to mess anything up. Thanks. MD |

Re: Help with 6:1 gear swap
Those "many" were not really knowledgeable on the subject. 36v motors will run for years on 48v without problems. Obviously, the more you demand from them in speed, load, torque etc. will lessen the life of any motor.

Re: Help with 6:1 gear swap
Once you remove the bolts from the motor to axle flange it should just slide off. It may require more persuasion by wiggling or even a BFH. They weigh about 35lbs so be prepared.

Re: Help with 6:1 gear swap
I cant believe you were able to get the entire rear end out of the cart with the motor still attached without hurting yourself. That must have been a delicate operation.
