trouble car stereo
I just put a car stereo in my ezgo ,when I take off the stereo goes off ,when I stop it come back on . I check the voltage have 12.5 setting and have 17.83 when going down the road ,is there a way around this ? need to cut it down how ?

Try a 36v to 12v reducer. 20-25 amp rated. This should fix your problem.

How are you getting 17 volts from 2 batteries?

You didn't ground it to the frame, did you?

I know more than 1 person that runs a radio off two batteries with no problem. Something isn't right with this. A lot of surface grounding and a frame ground? That is a guess as most of the regulars know

this is a gas cart used the ground off of the battery, and one battery , uesd a meter got 12.5 just idle and had 17.83 top speed

I would say you have a bad voltage regulator. |

No - The starter / generator produces voltage. The voltage regulator 'regulates' the amount of voltage the output is to the battery. You shouldn't get more than 14.5 volts. If you're getting more than that, you need to replace ASAP before you burn up your battery, stereo and other electronic devices.
