Default '92 Marathon steering box.

Finally got the Marathon working and on the golf course. There is a little more slop in the steering box than I would like to see.

For you guys that work on these things what can I expect to find when I pull it apart? Will I need to gut the whole thing and throw new parts at it or are there some parts that may be OK? Is there a overhaul kit with the most needed parts?

Well, I guess there isn't anybody left to answer my question.

HI, I don't know of an overhaul kit because different components wear out. There are some brass or whatever bushings that will wear out. There are manuals with diagrams in the tech section, There is a drawing of that steering box.http://www.bennettgolfcars.ca/parts.phpor the long way aroundhttp://www.buggiesgonewild.com/ezgo-gas-tech/ They are the same box until '94. You just need to identify the parts when you have it out and order them

Thanks. If the issue is mostly brass bushings I can make them. I have a lathe and mill. It doesn't look like there is much to getting the gear out of the cart maybe I just need to explore before I worry about ordering parts. I have the FSM.

I was just talking with Mike last week or so about this very issue. I have a '94 Marathon that had sloppy steering. Mike had mentioned that an overhaul kit might be a good move but then he checked and found that it was no longer available. Luckily for me, the slop in my steering was due to a VERY worn rod end. The one that goes on the end of the steering rack to be specific. I replaced that and the steering is MUCH better now.

Did he say parts were not available or just the "rebuild kit" was not available? I hope parts are still available.

Here's his response to me concerning obtaining a rebuild kit:
"...Well - I just checked and it isn't available anymore. You would basically get the ball end. rack gear and the pinion gear. It's the pinion gear that I can't see now. I'd get the part i sent you from EZGO...

The part he sent me was the rod end for the steering rack.
