what is this growing on the side of my motor?
This is a picture, if the upload from my phone works, of the drivers side of the motor of my new cart. It obviously doesn't belong there, just wondering what it is!?

Re: what is this growing on the side of my motor?
I just got this cart today, bought it sight unseen, and am just getting a chance to look over it. Charged it till the charger was down to 0 amps and went and rode around. Only lasted about 20 min of run time before I was worried about having to get out and push. Stamps on the neg terminal of the trojans say A5, so I'm assuming they are almost 5 years old. Is the poor performance the result of the "growth" on the side of the motor, or the age of the batts? I'm going to get a hydrometer tomorrow and test everything. Seller said he'd give me a 90 warranty, so I'm hoping it will cover all of this.....

That appears to be a mud dauber's nest.It is made from mudauber's spit and mud and contains mud dauber eggs and tranquilized spiders for the newly hatched mud daubers to eat .

I'll go poke at it in a little bit, but it didn't really look like that to me up close. Hope that's all it is tho!!

Here in South Georgia we call it a dirt dauber instead of mud dauber.

Re: what is this growing on the side of my motor?
Cool! Yea, I've heard of dirt daubers, I'm just not all that familiar with multi-battery set-ups and wasn't sure if it was some sort of oxidation or something I should be worried about. I am going to have to call the dealer tomorrow; multi-metered the batteries and am dissapointed.
After two laps around my block, maybe 1/2 mile, the cart is DEAD! The front 3 batts measure just a hair under 6V and the back 3 are just a hair over. From what I've read on here, a 6 volt battery that measures 6 volts is dead, right? Anything I might should try instead? It has been charging for two days straight, pretty much... |

Re: what is this growing on the side of my motor?
Should have left the dirt daubers on there. They were probably keeping the charge in the batteries
