Default solenoid activation

I'm new to the forum and new to working on golf carts but have learned alot already.I have a 1996 ezgo electric- series cart that worked fine and then just quit one day. I've done alot of testing and have narrowed it down to the solenoid not activating, I can activate it by running a jumper wire from the b+ terminal at the controller to the to the small lug with red wire on it at the solenoid. I can then press the accelerator pedal and everything seems to work fine in forward and reverse. I checked the wires that run from the key switch and it looks as if the switch is working. It seems like the problem is the solenoid is not being activated. Got any ideas on what's wrong or what I should check next? Battery voltage is showing 38 volts. Like I said it seems to work fine when I hook up the jumper wire. Thanks.

The key switch supplies power to the solenoid through the throttle and the micro switch on the FNR switch. Check to see you are getting continuity through these and all should work when you find the break in the chain.

When I hooked the power to the key switch wire I found that everything worked fine. So I tracked down where the power comes from to the key switch and found that the power comes from the charging receptacle and the switch in the charging receptacle was bad, I believe it's called a reed switch. I learned a bunch about this cart and how things work so future problems should be easier to fix. It's fun fixing your own stuff.
Thanks for your help.
