Two tow trucks later....
...... and it's out of the stream. Neighbor's kid took a corner to fast and took a swim, water got about an inch over the battery tray. Hoping the controller stayed ok with the protective cover but don't know, he was taking it apart when I left for work today. We do not it will not run, but we are going to let it sit for several days to dry out before troubleshooting.
Any tips, haven't dealt with a swimmer before. |

Re: Two tow trucks later....
That cover is not sealed, neither is the controller.
DO NOT TRY AND APPLY power...there is a chance, be it a very small chance the controller will be ok if you follow my instructions. You need to get the controller off and take the controller cover off/apart. It's not a sealed unit. If it were I wouldn't have one thats got corrosion on it. This may sound dumb but its not. Once you get the cover off WASH IT with soap and hot water real good..as hot as you can stand it....rinse it real good. Use a toothe brush to scrub it real good too, then get out your blow dryer and a box with a footprint about 3 times that of the controller. Cut a round hole in the side of the box big enough for the blow dryer's end to fit in. Plug it up and turn it on and let it run for AT LEAST 30 minutes on high heat with the box closed up. Place the controller towards the opposite side from the blow dryer inlet. Also, watch the temps on any plastic. Plastic WILL melt. Don't even bother if you have tried to apply power because its probly fried. Also, while your there, look for any corrosion and use the toothe brush to scrub it off. At this point you have NOTHING to loose. The colder you run the dryer the longer it will take to drive out any water. I've done this 4 times on CNC electronics to clean out plasma dust...I have yet to fry anything. Actually, the MFG is the one who told me to wash them. I've also done this with TV remote controls that get coke and crap spilled on them....no losses. All elecctronics at some point in time have been washed. You HAVE TO MAKE SURE ITS DRY! If you don't want to do it I'll take the controller off your hands. |

Re: Two tow trucks later....
Letting the controller sit is probly the worst thing you can do. The longer it sits the greater the chances of corrosion taking hold. If there is ANY moisture inside that controller IT WILL start to corrode.

Re: Two tow trucks later....
Yea....if your lucky some microswitch didn't work and the controller never tried to power up. Even if it did its still worth a shot at it. That would give you a chance to see whats inside.
The controller is "sealed" as in there are no user servicable parts inside, not sealed as in sealed from water. You'll have to pry the cover off. Its a pain to get off....but once you get a screwdriver in there it'll start comin off easy. Alltrax controllers are sealed in potting material. You can't even get to the components unless you have some potting remover. The Resistor throttle ezgo controllers have potting material on each end to "seal" supposedly but that stuff can dry out and crack. |

Re: Two tow trucks later....
You will also want to remove the floormat and get to the pedal box. Make sure that all the water is out of there so you don't fry your ITS...
