Battery life Gauge- Help

I am looking at adding a battery life gauge to my cart-- I have 6 -6volt batteries with 36.49 V is what it measures at the batteries I found a gauge on ebay that will work but need some help with the wiring-- I wanted to hook up to the Key switch but when I check the voltage there is is only at 29.14 ?
Should I wire direct to Battery were it is measuring 36.49- this will have the gauge on all the time will this be OK?
Why would the switch only show 29.14? Should I hook to this ?

The key switch should be the same voltage as the batteries. I"m thinking you have a corroded or bad connection somewhere.
Here's the wiring diagram for the SOC meter:

Also at 36.9v, your batteries are only charged to about 65%.
Here's a state of charge chart to help you assess your batteries:
