Default Flaky accelerator

If I push the accelerator all the way to the floor, nothing happens but if I let it up a little bit the cart takes off. Also sometimes the accelerator pedal can be unresponsive, especially in reverse. What should I start to look at?

I have a '91

Is this a resistor coil or solid state controller cart?

The diagram in the 89-93 wiring diagrams section looks just like my setup. Is that any help?

we need to know if you have a row of bare metal resistor coils behind the batteries.

I remember those days. You guys would try to help me and would be like .Stick with it syandoa; this place is THE most helpful site around. Scotty probably got about 100+ of his 17,000+ posts by helping me. Thanks Scotty. If it has the coils between the batteries then its a resistor cart. No coils and the cables lead to a aluminum cased box then it is a controller cart

Pictures are a real help. Your cart uses a controller for speed control Now when you say at full throttle it cuts out on you what happens if you take off at less then full throttle? Does it run ok and then just cut out when throttle gets full applied? Do you have an OHM meter to check out resistance? You are probably going to need one.

That is a controller cart. The controller is the between the batteries; towards the back. It has the large battery cables and three small wires with spade connectors on it. It sound like you are having a problem with the "pot" box (potentometer). The pot box is the small box on the driver's side in front of the controller and next to the soleniod. It has a pivot arm on it that connects to the throttle pedal. It should have 4 small wires comming out of it. You need to trace out the 2 small wires that go from the pot box to the controller. If I remember right they are black and white wires. Disconnect the two wires that connect the pot box to the controller from the cotroller and hook up a OHM meter. With no throttle applyed the reading should be 0. slowly move the throttle pedal. the reading should rise smoothly until the throttle is floored and then it should read 5000 OHM. If the reading is jumpy or not a specifyed then you probably have a bad pot box. Any of our sponsors should be able to help you out with one. Good luck.

The part about your carts pedal being unresponsive in reverse might mean other things besides a bad Pot. But checking the Pot with an Ohm meter is the place to start. Your picture shows the two wires from the pot going forward to the FNR but doesn't show if they are connected to the micro switch.

The other two wires are for half speed reverse and don't have to be hooked up. check them though and made sure the arenot touching each other. If they are hooked to the microswitch; unhook them and try driving and see if the problem is still there. May have a bad micro. I've never ran the half speed reverse because I want all it has if I get struck off roading.
