Default 97 Ezgo Dcs No Go

Hello everyone! I am new to the forum. I have been reading post but can't find one that relates to my issue. Ok so here we go.

My situation:

Bought a used 97 ezgo dcs from a guy who sold it for his friend. He saaid the controller was bad and he had removed it and put it in the front glove box of cart. So at this point I have never seen it run so I was starting with a cart that didn't work and I have no idea what might be wrong with it. I did some trouble shooting and figured it was the controller so I bought a alltrax dcx500dcs controller and new heavy duty White rodgers solenoid. I just got it in 2 days a ago, hooked it up and nothing. The controller is getting power cause the green light blinks 4 times showing ezgo its throttle and goes sold green saying it is ready. I push the pedal and no click of the solenoid. I have tested all of the micro switches and they are good. There is no back up buzzer because the wires were pulled out (which I have a new one coming). teh reverese plug to micro switch was melted but I cut off plug and uses electrical connectors. I just purchased a new resistor as well jsut in case that is the problem. The one thing I haven't checked is the motor. I did get a reading of 36v at both big posts when the cart is turned on and controller is solid green. Please help me and let me know what I should do next!

One more thing...I get 36v at both solenoid large posts. I have read that the solenoid is bad if you get this reading but my solenoid is band new.

thanks in advance,
Dan

Just put the same controller on mine last night. It would power up but would not move. I had the diode on wrong. Once this was changed it worked fine. Also put a D&D motor on it and what a BIG difference it made.

Solenoid has power at both large posts when it is closed(on) and not when it is open (off) So as long as the sloenoid is opening and closing it is okay.
The solenoid is an on/off switch. The pos and neg at the 2 small posts activate it.

I agree with Fudge, check your diode.....I think the banded side of the diode goes toward the hot (red) side...

You have your charger wires hooked up right?? I just programmed my Alltrax today with the 36 to 48v conversion, so I didn't hook up the 36v charger wires (brain fart). Had a no go; apparently the charger wires energize the key switch which in turn energizes the solenoid to apply the real juice to the controller.

Do you get 36v on both solenoid posts with the key switch off?
how about with the key switch on without pressing the pedal?

It depends upon what cart, what year, what model? You should never have power across the solenoid when the cart key is off. It can be wired so you have power when the key is on but it is not as good as having power across the solenoid only when the gas peddle is pushed....

Thanks everyone for the replies! You guys rock. I got a little impatient at work and decide to call the guys at alltrax for help. Chuck is who I talked to and gave me some good ideas as to what to look at. When I get home I will do the things chuck said and let you guys know what happened. Chuck did make me realize that I need a diode between the two small posts of the solenoid which I have never seen one on this cart since I got it.

Thanks again!

Yeah, You need to have the resistor and the diode in place. They are cheap enough (except for DCS) and they are good insurance!

Yes I went to radio shack and bought some diods. I went home that night and jumped the battery side large post of solenoid to small post with three wire and when I pushed the gas pedal the wheel would start spinng (yeah!) but at 1/4-1/2 throttle it would cut off and the controller would start blinking red 5 times which they told me I have a bad connection somewhere in the 2 small wires going to the motor or inside the motor which if I remember correctly one of the studs on the motor turns easily. So I will be pulling the motor to fix that. the other thing that was wierd when I jumped the solenoid is that when I pushed the pedal the solenoid doesn't click. Should it click when it is jumped for testing? I will be calling alltrax again today unless you guys have an awnser for that.

Thanks,
Dan
