Default Convertable Freedom Chip

PDS Speed Chip wiring

I'm getting ready to install the 22" tires on 10" wheels and wanted to use the steep hill chip for extra torque.

OKay, since these are the "chips", I got to thinking about the "Red" freedom chip and the "Blue" steep hill chip. Since the speed hook up is somewhat similar to the steep hill hook up, why not just clip the outside wire of the freedom chip to create a steep hill chip? I did and simply put a wire nut on the ends of the snipped wire. I ran it and noticed that the regen braking is not there, but just wondering how to know if the steep hill aspect is there.

It seems to pull really good but I'm not sure that it's a true "steep hill" chip simply by cutting the outside wire.

Any ideas from you guys? What do you think?

These "chips" do not play with the torque directly, they only regulate speed and regen levels.

Depending on which wire of a Freedom Plug you cut you could make Mild Hill OR Steep Hill plugs.

You can cut the outer wire and yes it will be a steep hill chip. All it really does is give you more regen braking and reduce top speed a little. You're going to have to upgrade that controller if you want any performance gains. PDS carts aren't torque machines in stock trim

Thanks guys. It was the outer wire I cut.

I know I'll have to eventually upgrade the motor and/or the controller, and saving my pennies for that now, but thought this would help during the time being, plus give the idea to others that just want a "chip upgrade".

With the wire cut like this on the red "freedom chip", those two wires can be run to the cover of the controller, through a toggle switch, and then have the freedom and steep hills chip all in one and with a very easy way to make the change. Just stop, lift the seat, put the tow/run switch in tow, flip the chip toggle, switch the tow back to run and you don't have to remove the stinking cover to make the change. Simple.

with two toggles you can get the range of stock, speed, mild and steep. I did that and it worked well. i upgraded the controller shortly after though. both off= stock, both on = speed, the other two could be switched to provide steep or mild.

SR - You won't need a new motor, unless you just WANT to spend the money. A controller alone is what I would recommend...

Mike,

So, with a stock motor, rear seat, and 22" tires, the controller alone, will make all the difference? I'm doing some searches here and trying to piece all of this info together, but I read so many post where guys got the motor and controller as a set, and some that went with the EMP 2 speed motor and stock controller, and others that went with just the controller.

After spending the $$ on the wheels, tires, and lift, I can only change one of the components right now, the motor OR the controller, so if I put the 400 amp controller on it, that stock motor will produce plenty of torque for my setup, even with the added weight of the rear seat and the larger tires? That won't over work the stock motor?
