Default Electric Motor Switch/Upgrade. Lessons Learned

Hello,
I have had great success posting to the EZGO wisemen in the past, so here goes my second thread.
I have a 93 EZGO with the stock electric motor. My everloving wife purchased me a new electric motor for Christmas. I am about to switch them out. When I talked to my local golf cart shop, his only advice was...if its not broke...don't touch it. But that's not why we buy these carts, is it!?
Anyway...before I jump into the unknow, any advice? Anybody have lessons learned when switching out motors? Any tricks, or things you wish you would have done now that you look back at it? Please...any/all advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

did you get you nogo problem fixed? next you will need to upgrade your batt, controller, motor wires to at least#4 welding cable. is your controller big enough to handle the larger motor? will your forward/reverse switch hold up or do you need to go to a heavy duty switch? what condition are your batteries in? do you have enough beer in stock to start this project?

pansser, has good questions for you, but basically, three bolts hold the motor on, they can be stubborn to get off, PBB is a good friend, and disconnect the bats before starting, depending on above questions. OH label wires before disconnect!!

If its not stuck it is a pretty easy job. Put some anti sieze on the splines when you put the new one in. Jack it up at the back of the bag well and pull the LR wheel and there is good access.

The most important question has been asked... yes, lessons learned. Nothing is worse than running out of brew in the middle of a job...

Got the motor off after much pain and nashing of teeth...here's what I learned so far...I may have done it all wrong according to some of you gurus out there...if so...feel free to let me know!
  1. I had to pull both rear wheels off...right rear to get to the bolts, and left rear to actually get the motor off and away from cart
  2. Motor bolts came off pretty easy...the cable nuts DID NOT! I broke one of the posts, bent another, one worked fine, and the other...I just left the cable on. It helps to use a wrench on the nut closest to the motor, and use another wrench to loosen the nut securing the cable. Anyone want to buy a slightly used stock motor?
  3. After all the motor bolts were off, I was expecting the motor to just fall off...it didn't. This was a welcome and pleasant surprise. Instead it stayed in place...and I easily separated it from the gear box.
  4. LABEL, LABEL, LABEL
  5. Stinking motor doesn't slide out easy anywhere. It's close...but no cigar...I had to release the driver side rear shock so that I could pull the motor out. This was not fun.

So...was able to get it out...I also made my own four gauge cables using a really good welding cable and copper connections...proud of myself for doing that!

I'll let you know how it goes putting the new motor in...hopefully tomorrow!
