Mystery Piece on top of controller - Help ID
What the heck is this thing? It was between two contacts on top of my controller...and as I was looking at it, I accidentally broke it.
What is it, do I need it, and where can I get another one...or can I fix this one? Thanks in advance. |

I ain't no expert, but I believe that is a diode. And yep it are broke. I don't run one even though the wiring diagram calls for one. But hang in there a really smart electrical member will steer you straight on it.

Re: Mystery Piece on top of controller - Help ID
the diode is there to suppress voltage spikes as the coil engages and disengages. not absolutely necessary, but it will stop the popping in your radio and the occasional flicker in your headlites when you shift. by the way groove, who the he!! is that in your avatar?

So are the two things pictured below the same thing...serve the same purpose? Assuming they have to be 3amp?

Looks more like a capacitor to me...
Was it hooked up to the big posts on the solenoid? (pre-charge resistor) Or the little posts? (diode) |
