Default EZ GO Electric Cart NEWBIE

I have recently come into my possession a 1994 TXT Ez Go electric 36v Golf cart. It is running but very slow. Is there anyway to make this cart faster? Ive read stuff about speed limiters and controllers but am very new to this and no know nothing about electric motors. The carts main problem in going up slow inclines where it comes to an almost crawl yet downhill it picks up speed (obviously). Any help will be much appreciated. If this question has been asked 1000 times already I am sorry just trying to get a direct answer. Thanks

Sounds to me like you have a battery problem.

Its not the batteries, they all have a good charge and are pretty new.

Always go to the basics. Wires and connections...clean and tight. On what do you base the batteries state? Voltage and SG need to be checked. Wire a DVM in, even temporary, and watch the voltage as you drive and climb. Large drops with no recovery is a sign of bad cells.

Brakes adjusted too tight? Jack up the wheels and spin by hand. Should be no resistance.

Air pressure.

After that stuff, you get into technical aspects, like speed sensor, solenoid, controller and finally,
a good paint job and sell on Ebay

And after reading back, your cart probably has resistors and the micro switches on the F/R switch can be problems
have at it and good luck!

That's what i was thinking as well. I read alot about "tow annd maintenence switch" that goes on when on hills. Any idea on how to fix this? Thanks for all advice so far. Was also told i might need a bigger electric engine that puts our more rpms. I also looked into an engine swap out for a gas but too expensive. Im just trying to get this thing a little quicker for when I go to sell it this week.

How are your batteries laid out?
3+3 or 6 in the middle?

It's 3x3 both in L shapes on either side with components (engine, wiring) running through the middle. I can post a photo if needed

OK, now we know you have a 1994 Marathon.
Prob around 12mph tops and dogs on inclines. Sorry, it's just what they were. Weak or poorly maintained batteries will just exacerbate that fact. Speed and torque = $$. Set a budget and many here can tell you what you can do for the budget $$. Be advised that OEM Marathon parts are getting more scarce by the day.

Good luck.

I doubt you will see 12 mph. My '92 Marathon with 6 new batteries and 4 ga cables went 10 mph on GPS and slowed to a crawl on hills. I spent about $2000.00 on seven batteries total, controller for 42v, HD solenoid, charger for 42v, 170-001-001 D and D motor and 20"X10"X8" tires and I now go 17 mph and don't slow down too much on hills.

I put the seventh battery in the center between the F-R switch and the controller bracket to keep the bag well open for golf clubs. I had to move the controller bracket back a couple of inches.

Speed costs money -- how fast do you want to go?
