Default Electric EZGO upgrade

I would like to buy a used Electric EZGO cart and put a 4-6" lift 22' inch tires and possibly a back seat. It will be used around the neighborhood for my wife and son and at the hunting camp in Alabama with moderate hills. My question is what model and year is the best to do this? Could someone please tell me what years used what type of system (Resistor type, DCS, PDS) and what system would be the best for what I am trying to do. For example I have been told that if I lift a PDS cart I have to go with at least a 400A controller and 4 gauge wires, but I see them lifted all day long with no mention of an controller upgrade, and these controllers are expensive. Also any input on lift kits styles and brands would great, Ifanyone has done something like this recently and would like to share their experience, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

A PDS Cart with stock components is a good cart to run around the neighborhood in, even lifted. The problems are a runaround neighborhood cart designed for speed and a hunting cart needing torque are 2 different animals so some trade offs will have to happen.

Had a 93 ezgo. went up 8" with 400 amp controller went with 8.3 HP motor to. the lift is easy; just make taller pillers for leaf spring and shock spacer. made mine out 8"rectangel steel.

If you want to stick with EZGO, then the TXT is the best all around cart to purchase. A lifted PDS is a great vehicle, but there will be additional costs in a controller upgrade from the get-go. Either way, a starting budget is needed, then you can decide on what direction to take...

If a CDS/PDS cart requires a upgraded controller then why would it not be better to go with an older cart with a series motor? Is there a benefit to the new PDS sytem? My brother just purchased a older CC, I think it is a 87 model with the the resistor type system and all he added was new batteries a lift and 22" tires and it goes around 20MPH. Could someone please tell me the diffrence between the the fleet/series, DCS and PDS systems and what year and models they come on, and avantages/diadvantages of both. I want to make the right decision on buying a used cart to lift with the most bang for the buck.

Thanks

EZGO, Club Car and Yamaha all make good carts. There are less upgrades available for a Yamaha and upgrades for Club Car seem to be less available and more costly than EZGO.
Here's my view regarding an EZGO purchase:

Resistor carts are OK but they are a power hog and runtime is not as good as the series or sepex carts. They are also older and hard to mod without expensive upgrades. These were built up to about 1993 which would make any resistor cart you buy at least 16 years old.

If modding is your thing and you want to have the flexibility to do nearly anything as Mike suggested the TXT (series) cart is the way to go. These were built from the mid 90's to about 2005.

The weakest link is the DCS cart. It was EZGO's first attempt at a sepex motor and they had some issues with controller failure and only lasted for a few years in production from about 1995 to about 1999.

Biggest bang for your buck for a neighborhood cruiser with mild lift/mods is a PDS (sepex) cart. You can lift it and run 22 mph without changing anything except the tire size. When that is done you will lose torque so your choices will be neighborhood cruiser or hunting buggy but not both. Adding higher amperage controllers to these make them perform even better. These were built from about 2001 to present.

Thanks for the explanation, I guess I was confused about the the TXT and the PDS carts. So I should look for a cart from 1990 to 2005. Does the TXT also have a controller that will ned to be upgraded when lifted. Also how can I tell the difference in the TXT and the PDS if their dates overlap? Also could you please explain the term sepex. Thanks again for the explanations!

I would say any cart newer than 95 should be OK.
The TXT is EZGO's term for a fleet cart which are a series wound motor cart.
Sepex is a seperately excited motor which operates differently than a series motor and are not interchangeable. You can tell a DSC or PDS cart by a run/tow switch on the controller box cover.
Both of these types of carts have controllers and whether they need to be upgraded is based on your demands. If you want torque for inclines, heavy loads or crawling through the bush, you may notice a controller fade to safe mode. If that happens, you will need a higher amperage controller.
