Default Best way to get 12 volts for accessories?

Hey guys, I have an 06 EZGO PDS, and want to hook up a 12 volt plug so I can use my Iphone GPS app while playing golf. I bought my cart from Mike at Mike's Motor Toys(HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IF ANYONE IN THE MARKET FOR A CART!) and Mike showed me how to get 12 volts using 2 batteries.

I wouldn't think that just using the cell phone charger would cause more wear on those 2 batteries, but I may also install lights for night golf tournaments. I was thinking that I could put a 12V deep cycle battery under the seat, and use a cheap charger every week or so to keep it up. Think this would be cheaper than going the converter route, and would not cause any additional strain on the battery pack.

Anyone else do this already, and if so, what type of battery did you use? Marine, wheel chair, or any other type?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Mike, I know you will probably see this! Cart is running great!

You can add a battery in the area under the drivers seat, OR hook to two batteries as I showed you, OR get a voltage reducer and get 12 volts from the entire pack (recommended)...

Bricks, I have been tapping 12v from my battery pack for years with no ill effects. Folks will tell you I am a bit anal about my battery maintenance. They are correct, LOL. I run lights, stereo, and neon from the pack. My cart is used every weekend from April thru October in a campground setting. If you are running a power amp on your stereo I would recommend a seperate 12v Deep Cycle battery and 12v automotive charger.

12 volt converter is the way to go.... battery tapping is fine also but when the battery pack starts to get weak and you hit the accelerator the radio will go off and back on ...the lights will get dim quicker..

I'm using a separate marine battery and automotive charger from wally world. Picked it all up for about $90.

Stock EZGO carts with light packages don't use anything but a battery tap.
I'm with gornoman on this one, tap the battery pack and call it good, IMO, anything else is overkill and a waste of money.
