Ez Go Speed Increase
I have a Electric 1998 EZ GO TXT golf cart and I was wondering if anybody could give me some simple tips on how to make it go faster. It runs fine 13-14 MPH.. also,is there a speed limiter on it and if there is how can I remove it?
Thanks! |

Re: Ez Go Speed Increase
There is no speed limiter or sometimes called plug braking on the TXT. Simple items include the follwing:
Tires inflated to manf recommendations Brakes checked to make sure they are not dragging No windshield or at least folded down. Batteries fully charged and all connections tight and clean. Simple expensive would be to have your motor sent to EMP for 2 speed conversion. Expensive would be to change the following motor, controller, wires, solenoid, high speed gears. Lift kit with 22+ inch tires will give you about 3mph gain on flat ground but will be slower up hill due to torque loss and stock controller, wires, etc. Last edited by Paxdad; 02-15-2010 at 11:41 AM.. Re: Ez Go Speed Increase
without buying a new motor and controller you won't be able to run faster. the factory motors are only rated for a certain RPM, New aftermarkets units can run faster RPM which inturns makes you run faster, but you do loose some low-end torque.

Re: Ez Go Speed Increase
Options and approx costs depending on how much DIY you do:
1) You could have your motor rewound by PlumQuik or EMP for a 7 mph gain. $300. 2) You could up the voltage to 48v for a 5 mph gain. $600. 3) You could change the rear gears to 8:1 for a 6 mph gain. $400. |
