Default DCS is it a mistake

Just bought a 99 ezgo Textron DCS. Dead batteries. Wanting it for a hunting cart. Mostly dirt roads and will always have some mud holes. Usually 2-3 adults. Wanted to go to 48 V via 8X6V. Is a DCS the wrong cart for this? When you change out the motor and the controller plus the solenoid at the same time why can't you make it a series type upgrade.

Motor is fine! Just upgrade the cables, solenoid and controller

thanks for the reply Mike. The reason I'm asking all this is the local ezgo shop said they wouldn't make any changes to a DCS. Or it could have just been one employees opinion.
Your saying I can go to the 48v= 8X6V and change the controller, wires solenoid staying in the DCS. Is a 450 amp from Altrax sufficient?

No - 48 volt is not needed, unless you want to spend the extra $$$. I would recommend new Trojan batteries, a 400 amp Alltrax controller, a complete set of 4 gauge cables and a HD solenoid. If you think you will go 48 later, then skip the solenoid for now and try the package out. You might decide that it is enough for what you need

Hunt,

I have a 98 Ezgo DCS cart and visited MMT for help.

Mike helped me out and I put on a set of the 4ga cables (good ones not cheap-a$$ ebay cables), an AllTrax 400 Amp controller, and 6 new Trojans.

I have a 5 inch lift and 23 inch tires, HD Ezgo springs front and rear, rear seat kit, etc,

I'm really happy with the performance of my cart. I read all of the bad stuff about the DCS's and after talking to Mike, he told me it was the controllers that were the weakest link. After replacing this stuff, I'm confident that my DCS is fine.

Glad you didn't mention that we charged you double the shop hourly labor rate because you "helped"
