Re: Yes...I counted 'em..
Maybe I thought I counted 2 ga. Outside diameter with insulation was approximately 1/2". According to the "internet" the o.d. of the actual 2 ga wire (not including insulation) is .2567" which is pretty close to what i have in the wire I have.
After more research I know I counted 2 ga..... I did find this on the internet. It appears that there are several different configurations available in both 4 ga and 2 ga (from this manufacturer anyway) 2 ga is available with 644 strands or 1254 strands. 4 ga is available with 392 or 2052 strands. http://www.ramcorpwire.com/products.php?cat=42 So, the way I figure it is the more strands strands may be more advanatgeous to an extent, but what you really want is to maximize your strand count and your cross sectional area. BUT you dont' want "normal" 2 ga or 4 ga industrial electrical wire right? |

Re: Yes...I counted 'em..
If the cable you have isn't marked on the jacket I wouldn't use it. But that's just me.

Re: Yes...I counted 'em..
Wire comes in many different strand counts for the same size and as gorno mentioned many different jacket compositions depending upon it's intended use.... You find from 200 - 600 strand #4 for example

Re: Yes...I counted 'em..
I think the only REAL way to determine this would be to re-count that again.....just to make sure

It is definitely bigger than what i have. I know it is at least 4 ga and I am 99.9% sure it is 2 ga, and I cut a section of it apart and inspected the strands (and counted them) to ensure that the strands were in good shape etc. |

Re: Yes...I counted 'em..
Because sometimes folks want to put Monster Cable in their golf cart, and that is a fire hazard. Therefore, I woudn't use cable that wasn't intended for the high-current/acidic environment of the average sparky cart battery bay.
