96 TXT upgrade questions
Hello, 1st post. I'm upgrading my 96 TXT (non DCS/PDS) series cart. New EMP Motor (LR 5.4), Alltrax NPX 4844 400 amp controller, HD Solenoid (#586 White Rogers), HD F/R switch, and new 4ga cables throughout. Couple of questions: 1. Solenoid posts are in different locations than stock solenoid-I think I'm fine on the large posts, but what about the small posts, what wires go where and the diode is supposed to have a white line closest to the + small post., which one would that be? 2. Will NPX 4844 mount easily where the stock Curtis 275amp was? The Curtis has a 1206 footprint, I think and the 4844 is for a 1204 footprint. Also, will it and new solenoid fit under original cover? 3. Also, need to replace batteries. Looking at Trojan 605, 105, 145. Local dealer prices: $92-605's, $110-105's, 145's?? haven't asked, I assume $130 range I want speed and range but, upgrade budget is tightening. Is there any difference in top end speed with these batteries? Also, I see the comparison of batteries sticky, but what kind of amps am I pulling a realitively flat ground, full throttle (just trying to estimate run time, I see mins @ 25amps and @ 75amps)? Sorry, so many questions. Thanks in advance.

Re: 96 TXT upgrade questions
OK, I've researched and have answered 1 and 2. Still curious about the batteries. Also, on F/R switch I have a black wire that connected to the back of the microswitch on the right, but with the new HD F/R I don't see anywhere to plug it in except the reverse buzzer (has one open terminal and one red wire on the other). Any suggestions for the black wire, the other colors were easy.

Re: 96 TXT upgrade questions
All things being equal, the batteries will all run the cart at the same speed. The more expensive units will give longer range and service life as long as the maintenance is correct.
The reverse buzzer requires 2 wires to operate. Perhaps the black wire was attached at one point and was removed to silence the reverse alarm? |

Re: 96 TXT upgrade questions
Thanks, Gornoman. I guess that's where it goes on the new F/R. It just threw me off where it was on my old F/R, but the buzzer never worked on it so it may have been there for a reason. As far as the batteries, I was just wondered if the extra weight slowed the carts top end speed. Just say T-605's vs T-145's, there is also a 100 extra pounds of batteries. I think I'll probably just go with the T-105's.

Re: 96 TXT upgrade questions
The T-105's will give you great service provided you take care of them with proper maintenance. PICS?

I've replaced motor, controller, wires (4ga), solenoid, f/r switch. I'm waiting on new resister, new diode, and I've got to go get the batteries ($$$). Hope it all works! My plan was an internal overhaul and later work on the outside. |

Re: 96 TXT upgrade questions
That is a good plan. Too many people work on the looks and don't have $ to work on the run ??? Get those battery trays cleaned up & repainted.....

Re: 96 TXT upgrade questions
Thanks, ScottyB. What do you recommend to clean the trays and then protect them? I had a little Naval Jelly that I put on and it cleaned it some, I guess I maybe need to get a wire brush. Oh, I've also got to mount my Speed/Torque switch.
