Have a 91 Marathon that has a problem .
The torque on the start is slow (barely taks off) but after it gets up a bit seems to be fine. Severial things have just been done to this cart. New batterys wires brushed and cleaned larger off road tires and lift put on new paint. I am not personaly doing any work to the cart have some friends doing it for me. They took off the larger tires and put the stock ones on just to see if the tires were the problem... Still the same , No bottom torque at the start. Cart was fine and had plenty of torque before , this just started. Hope you have the answere's to this new problem Thanks Guys, BCW |

Look at the F/R switch see if anything is burnt looking are when you drive it is there any burning smell you can tell. Do you know they rewired it correctly? Check the obvious first.

Thanks Andy,
The cart in question is down south of me in Winter Haven FL. It has been fine up untill yesterday. All wiering is correct and tight and clean. Im disabled in a Wheelchair the cart is being done for me so I can continue to Hunt and enjoy the Outdoors again . I will forward on the info you provided to check to the Fire Fighters that is doing this project. Guys this has been a great project, the cart was donated from up in Ga. The Guys at the fire dept. took on this project. It has New Batterys a 4 inch lift added New cammo paint job Brush Guard New upolstry for the seats Over size off road tires I bought from Blue Chip from here. Donations have come from all over Ga. and Fl. to get this thing done for me. In all its been a work in progress for 3-4 months. we were so close to completion Now This has happened . Its a 36 volt electric Marathon ... BCW |

Randy -
At first I though that maybe a battery wasn't wired right - that instead of 36 volts you were running off of 30 volts. If that's not it - I'm kind of stumped. It's obvious that you are losing voltage somewhere... It can only be a few things - switch, wiring, batteries, motor.... |

Blue Chip or ANYONE can you tell me what the voltage should be
in the process of elimination on this problem. Here is a email quoat from my friend who is trying to figure it out and why its now doing this... "Quoat" See if you can find a diagnostic list to follow . How to check a controller would be real good to know. I need to know what voltages should be present at what points. I am going to take take f/r switch apart tomorrow night and check it. The battery cables have been double checked. I wire brushed them all clean prior to the battery install. I will go thru all the connections again and let you know. Your Help is very much appreciated Randy (BCW) |

Connecting the volt meter to the negative on the first battery and the positive to the last battery - it should be at or above 36 volts.
Each battery should be somewhere around 6.36 volts each (or so). I don't know how to check the switch or the controller though.... |

If it moves it probably is not the controller itself. Best way to check switch is to take it apart and physically study it for burn or wear.
symptoms lead me to these things..: 1. Backwards placed batteries.. Make sure that the wires are connected properly... 2. F/R switch wearing out.. 3. Motor brushes worn. At 17 years old, it would not be unheard of. 4. loose wiring, check battery nuts, wires on controller, f/r switch and motor.. 5. Hung brakes, it could be the brakes catching and making the takeoff weak..(you should hear that though). |
