48v Solenoid on 36V System
Thanks in advance to all of the forum member. I have been lurking for a while and finally purchased a cart. Your discussions were a great help in my decision process.
Cart: 2005 EZ-GO Series with stock motor, controller, solenoid and F/R Switch 36V System (6 - 2008 6V Trojan 105s) 6" Ezgo Lift with 22x11 tires on 10" wheels Rear Flip down seat I plan to upgrade as fast as my budget allows and plan to use the cart as a hunting buggie that I can also ride the family around the neighborhood in. Speed is not as important as torque is. In fact, the current 13-15MPH is fast enough. I would rather be able to maintain that speed on a long hill or have enough torque for short hills and some mud. Eventually, I will upgrade the F/R switch, motor and convert to 48V. Yesterday, I purchased an Alltrax 4855 (500A Programmable) Controller and am about to purchase a heavier solenoid. My question: So that I do not buy the same real estate twice, can I go ahead and buy a 48V solenoid so that I do not have to buy another one when I convert to 48V? Will running this 48V solenoid at 36V have any adverse effects on the rest of my system? Thanks in advance for your help. I apologize for the long post but I would rather give you enough information to answer my question. |

Re: 48v Solenoid on 36V System
Welcome to BGW!
Running a 48v solenoid on 36v will not harm the solenoid, but the 36v may not be enough to draw the contacts together on the 48v unit. I would go ahead and try it. If it works, you are that much closer to a proper 48v conversion. If it doesn't work, stay with your old solenoid and save the new one till you upgrade. The 500 amp Alltrax does not generate 500 amps, it only ALLOWS 500a if the motor CALLS for it. Post up some pix of your ride! |

Re: 48v Solenoid on 36V System
Thanks. I'll post pic soon.
Also, I might just run the stock solenoid for now and see how it performs. |
