Wiring my 36v Converter/Reducer - HELP
93 Marathon Metal Body
So I wired the converter to the positive on battery 1 and negative on the last battery. The directions I recieved with the converter/reducer told me to wire the positive to battery 6 and negative to battery 1. I assumed this was wrong but tried it first anyway. Now I am back to positive on battery 1 and negative on last battery. There are 2 wires that are supposed to go to the positive so I connected them together then to the positive. See picture. Also, yellow is supposed to be a ground and the middle red wire is the 12v output. Took the outgoing 12v wire and ran it to a fuse block with 4 fuses. So here is my problem. I hook up the head unit I am installing to one of the wires from the fuse block. I confirm it is hot all the way to the head unit. When i ground the head unit it doesnt turn on. Where do I place the ground to? I tried the chassis and a negative on battery 2 and everywhere else. Head unit doesnt work. Also, when i going it and put the test light on the ground i get light. I dont understand. Is there power running through my whole cart. Here's a blurry pic. I plan to wire some other accessories and I am not sure where to ground everything. Thanks for any help. there should be a positive and a negative coming out of the converter, so you would need to hook up the ground from you head unit to the negative of the voltage converter.

Re: Wiring my 36v Converter/Reducer - HELP
Ok. Just got off the phone with the guy i bought this from. He told me the 2 wires coming out that only the fused one needs to go to positive. the other one is an ignitions wire. so thaty makes sense.
Then he told me that the negative for my head unit should go to the main negative or negative on the last battery. Does this sound correct? |

Re: Wiring my 36v Converter/Reducer - HELP
On the reducer, you should have a pos and gnd hooked to your batteries, #1 and #6 where your charger cables hook up to your batteries, hook the reducer to the same place to power the reducer,CHECK WITH METER--, out of the reducer you should have a pos and gnd to go to your -(acc) do not groung anything to the frame.run all wires from ACC to the reducer and yes get the tester and check it all -- |

Re: Wiring my 36v Converter/Reducer - HELP
you might be able to run the ground through the accessories? ie -pos from the converter neg from batt 6. i would think there is a ground coming out of the converter somewhere though
